Go Negosyo’s longtime partner PLDT SME Nation, through its MVP Bossing Awards 2016, recognized the Filipino entrepreneurs who have inspiring stories of trials that led them to their success today.
Tony Tan Caktiong, chairman and CEO of Jollibee Foods Corporation, was named MVP Grand Bossing 2016. Other 2016 Bossings recognized were Andok’s Litson Corporation CEO Leonardo “Sandy” Javier Jr.; Astoria Hotels and Resorts president Jeffrey Ng; Double Dragon Properties Inc. chairman and CEO Edgar “Injap” Sia; Eng Bee Tin Chinese Deli president Gerry Chua; architect and designer Kenneth Cobonpue; Mercury Group of Companies president Vivian Azcona; and Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. president and CEO Dennis Uy.
I was also awarded the Nation Builders’ Award, along with Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez and Department of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, who was awarded as MVP Bossing in 2015. This award is given to Bossings who have answered to the call of public service, having gone beyond business to contribute to the greater needs of society in government.
In his speech introducing us, Eric Alberto said, “Their recent appointment in the near government ensures that more attention and resources are deployed in further advancing the critical national economic agenda, and that is to strengthen the competitive ability of all business in this country. Their ultimate mandate is to achieve inclusive growth and wealth creation for the wider-based Filipinos.”
An offshoot from our Kapatid Program, PLDT SME Nation, Go Negosyo, and Department of Trade and Industry also had the first-ever Kapatid Awards, which supports the development of micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs through partnership with big-brother companies. The Kapatid Awardees featured Shared Service Facilities (SSF) cooperators and end-users from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
By region, the awardees were, Luzon: SSF cooperator Jennifer Lapinas and SSF end-user Evelyn Payacda of the Dangdang-ay di Ibila Cooperative Coffee Processing Shared Services Facility in Bauko, Mountain Province; Visayas: SSF cooperator Merlina Lumakin and SSF end-user Fhoebe Behay of the Project Sto.
